High up above the Greve valley, we find the tiny village of Lamole in Chianti. The drive to Lamole from the via Chiantigiana (turnoff to the east between Greve and Panzano) is one of the most spectacular detours for those exploring the Chiantigiana and its environs. You drive through vineyards, past picturesque farmhouses and villas, through avenues of cypress trees, past precipitous drops, the village of Casole, an antique water fountain as well as the Castello di Lamole.
Note that there is an excellent, economical and innovative restaurant on a side road soon after the turnoff to Lamole from the main road (via Chiantigiana). This is Ristorante Dondoli.
Lamole itself has the Church of San Donato where classical music concerts take place throughout the summer, a small grocery shop and a cluster of houses, plus a very good if fairly expensive restaurant, the terrace of which enjoys views past Panzano into the distant hills beyond the Val di Pesa.
There are a number of excellent vacation rentals in Lamole and the nearby clusters of farmhouses, and the central location in Chianti, views and cool summer breezes make Lamole a sought-after vacation location.
Holiday rentals near Lamole include:
Le Chiantinelle.
